No party can really start swinging unless all your guests are comfortable with each other. To make sure everyone is having a great time, here are some games that will help break the ice and put all the guests in a fun mood. You will obviously play these games at the beginning of the baby shower.

Icebreaker Baby Shower Game #1: Baby Shower Raffle

Ask each guest to buy a raffle ticket by paying a token amount like a dollar or five. You can also tell guests that they can buy raffle tickets with baby products like diapers, formula, bottles and bibs – but guests will have to be given notice for this with the invite itself. Put round stickers with a number on them on each of the barter baby products or if your guests prefer to have raffle tickets then assign a number to each ticket. Once all the guests have arrived stir things up a bit by playing emcee and finally get the mother to be to pull out the winning number and award a prize.

Icebreaker Baby Shower Game #2: Scratch This

Make some scratch cards like the ones that are often sent in the mail. Draw baby related items like diaper pins, bottles, rattles, bibs, teats, blocks and cradles. Make three matching items on one scratch card only or if you plan on having multiple winners then on as many prizes as you want to give away. Using a silver wax crayon color over the drawings. When the guests arrive hand each one a scratch card and ask them to keep it for later. Give each guest a diaper pin and ask her to scratch the silver off. The guest who gets the three matching items wins!

Icebreaker Baby Shower Game #3: Baby Betting

Make a list of factual information related to the baby’s conception and current status. You can include date of conception, baby’s approximate current weight, gender of the baby, due date and similar things. A list of 5 things should be plenty. Get all your guests to place bets on each of the 5 things and encourage them to bet big. Start the betting at the beginning of the shower and let it continue throughout. At the end of the baby shower the mother to be gives away the answers and declares the winners. Give all the money collected from the betting to the unborn baby and award prizes to the winners.

First time fathers probably live in fear of the moment when their pregnant wives are going to scream – “My water broke!” Some end up imaging the words and even having nightmares about it. Here are some great baby shower games that will take the fear out of the three little words and put some much needed humor into the situation.

My Water Broke Baby Shower Game #1: Ice Ice Baby!

Get some ice trays that are designed for larger ice cubes than the regular size. Also buy small plastic babies that would fit inside each ice cube slot. Place one plastic baby in each ice cube slot and then fill the tray with water. Make sure you have as many ice cube babies as you have guests and some extras as well. Put the ice trays in the freezer so you will have frozen ice cubed babies. At the beginning of the shower put one ice cube each in a cup of water and hand one to each guest. The guest who’s water breaks first and the baby is born wins the game! This is a game of pure chance so it works really well to break the ice – no pun intended.

My Water Broke Baby Shower Game #2: My Water Broke!

Buy some medium sized balloons and fill them with water. Pair up all your guests into teams. Give each team a water balloon ‘baby’ and tell them they have to pass the baby to each other. Make them stand 8-10 feet apart and have them toss the baby at each other. Of course if the baby falls they have to shout, “My water broke” and they are out of the game. The pair tossing the baby longest wins. Be prepared to have lots of water on the floor. This game is best played outdoors or some place that doesn’t mind a mess.

My Water Broke Baby Shower Game #3: Race To The Labor Room

Give each guest a water balloon and have her hold it between the knees. Make all the guests stand at a start line and race to the finish line with the water balloon between the knees. If the balloon falls and breaks the guest has to shout, “My water broke”, run back to the start line, grab another water balloon and start over. The guest who reaches the finish line first with the balloon intact wins. Again, be prepared for lots of water on the floor and this game is best played outdoors!

Pacifiers are every mothers little helpers. They help calm and soothe the baby and often give mothers a much-needed break. Here are some baby shower games that use the pacifiers for more than just soothing the baby. Pacifiers also make for great fun at baby showers!

Pacifier Baby Shower Game #1: Passing The Pacifier

You will need a few pencils and a pacifier. Make sure you get the kind of pacifier that comes with a loop at the end. Give each guest a pencil and ask her to hold it in her mouth. Place the pacifier from the looped end on one of the player’s pencil. Have the players pass the pacifier from one pencil to another around the room without using their hands. The player who drops the pacifier is out of the game. You have to ensure that players don’t cheat by refusing to accept the pacifier. Any player caught trying to deliberately drop the pacifier goes out herself. The last person left standing wins!

Pacifier Baby Shower Game #2: Bobbing For Pacifiers

This is a great take off on the traditional ‘Bobbing for Apples’ game. Get a baby bathtub and fill it with water. Place a dozen or so pacifiers in the water. The guests have to retrieve as many pacifiers as possible using their mouths with their hands behind their backs in a given amount of time. Generally 1 minute is good enough to create competition. Two minutes may make it far too easy. The guest who retrieves the most pacifiers wins!

To make the game tougher or yuckier, replace water with a food like oatmeal or pudding. You could even make lemonade or some nice drink and bob the pacifiers in that. Your guests might actually enjoy all the dunking they have to do.

Pacifier Baby Shower Game #3: Pacifier Counting

Get a few dozen pacifiers and a big container like a novelty sized feeding bottle. Fill the bottle with as many pacifiers as you possibly can. Make sure you count the number of pacifiers as you put them in. Once all the guests have come ask them to look at the bottle and guess how many pacifiers are inside. The guest who comes closest to the actually number wins! If you place some pacifiers with the caps on, some without and other with the packaging it can be quite difficult to guess how many are actually inside the bottle. Once the game is over make a gift of the pacifiers and the bottle to the mother to be!

Parenting is something that you learn as you go along. Unfortunately there really are no courses or degrees that ensure that you will excel at parenting. It is all about loving, giving and caring. Here are some games that will initiate the parents-to-be into handling an infant. The games are great fun especially if you have childless guests in the group. Guests with kids have an unfair advantage but hey! Give them a break. They deserve it.

Parenting Baby Shower Game #1: Traveling Light

As any parent will tell you that once a baby arrives, traveling light or with a backpack is a thing of the past. If you have a small group let each guest play the game individually or for a large group divide your guests into 4-5 groups. Give each group a medium size baby bag and tons of baby stuff like diapers, baby wipes, bibs, clothes, bottles, formula, hot water thermos, pacifiers and toys. The aim of the game is to pack all the baby stuff into the bag as soon as possible. Of course you must ensure that all the stuff will go in only if the bag is packed with extreme patience and frugality of space as only a mother of five can do. Amidst much hilarity watch your guests stuff their bags to the brim!

Parenting Baby Shower Game #2: A Day With Baby

Make a list of challenges or tasks to be completed in a typical day like folding the laundry, diaper the baby, take out the garbage, sterilize the bottles, make the formula and clip coupons. Get 7-10 tasks in your list. Now have each guest complete the tasks on the list one at a time. The other guests get to shout out distractions, which must be incorporated by the person playing mom. Distractions can be answer the doorbell, answer nature’s call, get the phone, and pat the baby back to sleep. The guest who completes all the tasks quickest wins. Of course, the only way to actually win this one is to multi-task, which is a talent one really acquires only after having babies!

Parenting Baby Shower Game #3: Dress The Baby

Get a toy baby or a baby doll for each guest or group of guests. Give each group one baby doll, a set of clothes for the baby, a cloth diaper with a diaper pin, a bib, a comb and some baby lotion. The set of clothes should be a complicated piece of baby clothing like a full button down romper. Now each group must dress the baby as fast as possible. However, each guest is only allowed to use one hand. If your guests are playing the game single it can become very tricky. In groups too you’ll be surprised at how much co-ordination a simple task as this can require! Great fun.

As any pregnant woman will tell you having your belly expand and expand and continue to expand beyond what you thought it possibly could is one of the most challenging aspects of pregnancy. Not until you have actually gone through carrying 15 pounds extra just around your waist can you fully appreciate the balancing act required to go on with your daily chores. Here are some baby shower games bound to make your guests appreciate the mother to be a whole lot more!

Belly Baby Shower Game #1: Pillowcase Relay

Get 4-5 pillowcases and stuff them with heavy books so that they weigh a good 15 pounds plus. Divide your guests into 4-5 groups of 4 each and create lanes for them to have a relay. Tie the pillowcase around the waist of the person who will start for each team. In each lane drop 4 baby objects like bottles, pacifiers and bibs placed at a distance from start to finish. The objective of the game is that each member of the team must tie the pillowcase around his or her waist, run down the lane and on the way back, bend and pick up one item and pass it to the second member. All team members must take a turn and pick up one item each until all the items have been cleared off the floor. The team that collects all the baby items first wins. While running with the extra 15 pounds may not be so difficult (especially since the guests wont be worried about hurting the books!), bending is going to be tougher than they imagined.

Belly Baby Shower Game #2: Girth Guess

This is a really popular baby shower game. Get a spool of thread or ribbon and ask each guest to cut off as much ribbon as they think is required to go around the belly of the mother to be. Some of the guests cut off ribbon that could go around the mother to be twice! Of course the mother to be may be offended if she is sensitive about her weight so tread carefully. The person closest to the actual girth wins.

Belly Baby Shower Game #3: Ballooning Belly

Blow up a bunch of balloons. The aim of the game is to have the guests create a balloon belly for them. The guest who can stuff the maximum number of balloons inside her shirt and create the largest belly – wins. Be prepared to blow loads of balloons for this one. It a great sight to see woman wearing fitted tops and dresses have a go at this one.

Feeding bottles are perhaps the most universal symbol used to indicate the presence of an infant. It would be difficult to separate a feeding bottle from a hungry infant… or for that matter a mother from her infant’s feeding bottle! Here are some great baby shower games using feeding bottles as props. Keep in mind that you need to buy the most basic traditional feeding bottles for these games and not new fancy shaped bottles or ones for infants with feeding problems. The range and variety of feeding bottles available in the market can take you by surprise.

Feeding Bottle Baby Shower Game #1: Bottle Bowling Alley

You will need nine feeding bottles and a soft ball. Create an alley by marking it out with lines on the floor. Play a traditional game of bowling using the bottles for pins. Great fun and fits right with the theme of the baby shower. This is also a great game for co-ed baby showers when fathers are present as well. Men can identify with the game even if they can’t with the bottles!

Feeding Bottle Baby Shower Game #2: Bottles Up!

Get as many feeding bottles as you have guests. Fill each bottle with soda or water or whatever drinks you are serving at the shower. Give each guest a bottle filled to the top. The aim of the game is to finish the contents of the bottle while drinking from it like a baby! In other words guests have to suckle from the bottle teat like a baby would. They are not allowed to open the cap and drink up. The guest who finishes her ‘milk’ fastest wins! This game provides fantastic photo opportunities especially of those guests who are too queasy and wont drink from a baby bottle.

Feeding Bottle Baby Shower Game #3: Ring The Bottle

Take the bipples from a bunch of bottles and collect about a dozen bottle nipples. Get a small baby bathtub and place it at some distance. The aim of the game is for the guests to toss the nipples into the bathtub. If placed at a distance this can become quite difficult because the nipples are fairly lightweight.

You could also modify this game slightly and place the bottle nipples on the floor and get a horseshoe or some rings and play ring the nipples depending on your preference.

P.S. It is not acceptable to make a gift of the feeding bottles after you have finished playing the games. Baby bottles require extreme hygienic care and sterilization. It would be offensive to gift them to the mother to be. Please save them for other baby shower games or dispose them.

Here are some baby shower games that require your guests to put on their thinking caps. You will need to organize these games before the party since they require some amount of work on your part as well. These games are a great way for the hostess to get much-required time outs to lay the snacks or in general take care of things to keep the baby shower running smoothly.

IQ Baby Shower Game #1: Animal Babies

Make a list of animals and what their young ones are called. For example, Cow-calf, Pig-piglet, Goat-kid, Kangaroo-joey, Dog-puppy, Cat-kitten etc. On a large paper mix all the words and list them down randomly. Put the paper up on the wall. Give each guest a paper and a pencil and ask them to put down the mother-child pairs. While all the guests are busy scribbling down their answers the host can organize another game or lay out the snacks. The guests are likely to get most of the answers right but a few may surprise you with their lack of knowledge. It’s great to poke fun at them and tease them about their lack of baby IQ!

IQ Baby Shower Game #2: Name That Tune

Get a tape of baby nursery rhymes and popular songs that has only the music or tunes on it. Set up a music box so that all your guests can hear the tunes. Play the tunes and ask the guests to guess which nursery rhyme or song it is and sing along. The guest who gets the most correct answers wins. You can buy a set of instrumental songs and even tapes that have the wordings recorded and make a gift of all the music to the mother to be. In addition, you can even use the music to perk up your party.

IQ Baby Shower Game #3: Baby’s The Word

Give all your guests a pen and a paper. Set a timer for a five-minute limit. Ask the guests to list as many movie names as they can with the word ‘Baby’ in the title. The name can include variations of the word ‘Baby’ like babies or baby’s. The guest who lists the most number of movies wins!

You can also play a variation where you ask your guests to list songs that have the word ‘Baby’ in the chorus. This list is likely to be much longer than the movies list.

In another variation, you can create a set of categories like ‘Movies titles with the word baby in them’, ‘Song with the word baby in the chorus’, ‘Nursery rhymes with the word baby in them’ and the like. Give the guests 1 minute per category to list down as many items as they can. The guest with the maximum number of items wins.

Emotions are bound to be running high at any baby shower. The mother to be is likely to be crying at the drop of a hat and so will most of the other women present. Here are some games that make great keepsakes for the guest of honor. All babies deserve as many best wishes as they can get!

Keepsake Baby Shower Game #1: Time Capsule

Buy a beautiful keepsake box that will withstand the rigors of time and decorate it for the baby. With the invite to the baby shower, ask each guest to bring something for the baby’s time capsule. It could be a photograph with the mother to be, a letter to the baby, a relevant clipping from a newspaper or anything else that they want to share. At the baby shower ask each guest to show their contribution, speak about it an wish the mother and baby lots of joy and happiness. Place all the items in the time capsule and present to the mother to be. Keep a pack of tissues on hand. We can guarantee you will need them!

Keepsake Baby Shower Game #2: A Letter From Me To You

Get some good quality letter writing paper, envelopes and pens. Give each guest a sheet of paper and ask her to write a letter to the baby to be born. Let each guest talk about her relationship with the mother, her feelings about the baby and what she thinks the baby would love as a 5 year, 10 year and 15 year old birthday gift. It is great fun for the baby to see years later what his or her aunt’s and uncles thought would make great gifts. In all likelihood the gifts will all be passé! Put all the letters in a scrapbook and present as a keepsake to mommy to be.

Keepsake Baby Shower Game #3: Puffy Paints

This game is loads of fun and can get messy too! Buy lots of plain white baby tees or onesie outfits or rompers or bibs. Any baby clothing in plain white will do. It is best to get lots of tees since those are the most used piece of clothing by newborns. Also get puffy paints for the guests. Ask the guests to get creative and paint tees and onesie outfits for the baby to wear. At the end of the baby shower present the mother to be with all the hand painted clothes. This makes a great baby shower game and is practical too!

Changing diapers has to be THE most dreaded task of caring for a baby. What better way then to get all your guests into the parenting mode than to play some diaper games? Be prepared for the childless guests to turn squeamish at the mention of diapers and baby poop. In fact the more poop details you can give the guests, the more they are likely to squirm. It is best not to play these games anywhere close to when you plan to serve the snacks.

Diaper Baby Shower Game #1: Diaper The Baby Boy

Draw a large baby boy on a paper and tape it to the wall. Tell everyone that the object of the game is to pin the diaper on the baby boy blindfolded. Everyone thinks this is a spin off on the ‘Pin the tale on the donkey’ game. However, this time round get the mother to be to go first. As soon as she is blindfolded, whip out a bunch of water guns and spray her with water. She’ll be shrieking for mercy before you know it but tell her with baby boys you have to be careful else you get sprayed!

Diaper Baby Shower Game #2: Poop It!

This one is really yucky but the expressions on your guests’ faces are going to be worth the trouble. Get as many diapers as you have guests. Stain each diaper with a yucky smelling food or any kind of goop that doesn’t smell so great. You can even pick the prank poop you get in stores. Give each guest a diaper and place a bowl of poop in the center. Tell them that have to place as much poop in the diaper as they think a baby would do. Get ready with your camera. When guests undo the diaper to ‘place’ the poop and already discover something smelly they are going to react as though it’s real baby poop! The guests without a baby are the one’s to really watch out for.

Diaper Baby Shower Game #3: Speedy Diaper

Get a toy baby doll, some diapers and a blindfold. Once all your guests have arrived tell them that the baby needs his midnight diaper change but the lights are out. So you are going to have to diaper the baby in the dark! Let each guest have a go at diapering the baby blindfolded. The trick is to hand the guest the diaper upside down or inside out so they spend precious time figuring out which side is the right side up. Some of them might not even bother to do that and put on the diaper all wrong! It is great fun to see each guest fumbling in the dark with the baby and the diaper. Even the most proficient mothers find themselves stumped since this is a task they’ve rarely done blindfolded.

If you talk to a mother for any length of time be prepared to hear about her child’s feeding habits or lack thereof. For some undecipherable reason perfectly sane women become food obsessed mothers as soon as they birth their first child. To be fair to them, feeding times can be severely trying if the baby decides he or she doesn’t want to be fed. Here are some great baby shower games that will help the mother to be take feeding times with a pinch of salt.

Feeding Time Baby Shower Game #1: Spoon Fed Baby

You will need bibs, jars of baby food and a baby spoon with each jar. Ask all your guests to pair up. If you are having a couple baby shower this game is perfect and makes things easier. Just have the couples play together. Give each pair a bib, a jar of baby food and a baby spoon. One of the two has to play the baby and the other the mother. The objective of the game is to finish the jar of baby food as fast as possible using only the baby spoon. The ‘baby’ must wear the bib and any spills automatically disqualify the pair. The game gets really hilarious and provides great Kodak moments.

If you want to make the game tougher, ask the ‘mother’ to use only her mouth to hold the spoon and no hands! Of course, spills become inevitable so you may want to change the rules a bit. Also this version works better with couples.

Feeding Time Baby Shower Game #2: Food List

This is a fun game and a great way for the mother to be to get ideas on what to feed the baby after it arrives. Pick a phrase or combine the names of the parents so you have 8-10 words. The phrase could be something like– “Thank you for coming to the baby shower today!” or “What foods are healthy, nutritious and wholesome for an infant?” Ask each guest to list as many baby foods as they can by using letters from the phrase or the parents to be names. Mothers have an advantage over non-mothers so watch out.

Feeding Time Baby Shower Game #3: Categories

Make a list of categories related to food. Some examples are:

Baby foods that are orange in color.

Baby foods beginning with the letter D.

Baby foods rich in calcium.

Baby foods that can be stored in the freezer.

Baby foods that smell great.

Give each guest a paper and a pen and give them 1 minute per category to write down as many baby foods as they can. You’ll be amazed at what some mothers and especially non-mothers consider as baby food!
